The Osgoode Cup is a pre-law mooting competition. This annual event takes place at Osoode Hall Law School and is open to teams across Canada. It is a great opportunity to see if you are really interested in law.

What follows are thoughts of a student who participated in 2006.

“Several years ago, Osgoode Hall Law School began offering undergraduate students a taste of the law school experience. The Osgoode Cup Undergraduate Mooting Contest gives a chance to try your hand at mooting-a staple of both curricular requirements and inter-school competition. Mooting pits two teams against each other in a mock courtroom setting. The Osgoode Cup features a Motion to the “Supreme Court of Osgoode Hall.”

Last year, the motion was an attempt to dismiss a lawsuit against a ski slope operator by an injured skier. Counsel were exposed to some perceptive comments and tough questioning by the judges, a mix of practicing lawyers, law professors, law students, and sitting judges. The final round was presided over by a group that included a retired Supreme Court Justice.

The next Osgoode Cup Competition takes place this February. Registration has closed, but for all those registered it promises to be another fun, valuable experience. Interested students who missed the deadline should be sure to sign up next time.”

The 2007 Osoode Cup is over. As the following article from a York University publication reports, teams from York placed first and third.
