Philip Slayton is a former professor and dean of the law school at the University of Western Ontario. He also practiced for many years at a large Toronto law firm. He will teach a first year contracts class using a real case. This is a must attend event for anybody seriously interested in law school. But you have to read and study the case in advance! (The case will not be distributed at the event.)

Once again, the case must be read in advance, printed and brought to the class.

“The Event Of The Year For Future Lawyers!”

Pre-law students are constantly surrounded by inaccurate and misleading information.  Pre-Law Forum gives you the opportunity to get the accurate information that you need directly from the admissions officers of Ontario law schools and McGill.  On June 14 you will hear from and have the chance to ask your questions to the admissions officers at Osgoode, Windsor (both LL.B. and LL.B./J.D. programs), Ottawa (civil, common, LL.B./J.D.), McGill (joint civil/common), Western (LL.B., and numerous joint programs) and Queen’s (LL.B. and numerous joint programs).

You will first hear targeted presentations (which address the most common concerns of pre-laws) and then have the opportunity to ask your specific questions to the admissions officers of those schools. You will also have the opportunity to talk to current Osgoode students and receive a tour of the school.

Obviously you will be able to pick up individual school brochures and admission information.

This is a fantastic opportunity. You should make every opportunity to attend. Bring your friends or family or anybody else who has been living the pre-law years with you.  Forward this information to anybody who you know is interested in law school.

For more specific information see:

This event does NOT require pre-registration.

Part IV – Law Talk – The News

1. New Ontario Law School One Step Closer To Reality

Ontario is one step closer to having at least one additional law school. Lakehead will be opening a law school in Northern Ontario.  See:

2. Legal Research Outsourced To India

There are two major legal systems in the world.

The “common law” system is prevalent in most North America (Quebec and Louisiana excepted), the U.K. and the British Commonwealth.

The “civil law” system is prevalent in Europe, Russia and China (this is a good argument for getting a joint civil/common law degree think Ottawa and McGill).

India is a “common law” country. North American law firms are now able to take advantage of lawyers trained in India by outsourcing legal research to India. See the following discussion:

http://www.lawschoolbound.ca/blog/_archives/2008/4/28/3664441.html

Is there really any reason to exclude lawyers trained in India from the Bar of Ontario?

3. Lawyers And Human Rights In China
